Intel presenta il processore Atom Z550

In occasione del primo anno di vita del processore Atom, Intel ha oggi ufficializzato il nuovo modello Z550, di cui si era parlato nelle scorse settimane.

L’Atom Z550 ha una frequenza di clock di 2GHz (i modelli N270 e N280 montati negli Eee PC, Eee Box ed Eee Top attuali girano invece a 1.6 e 1.66 Ghz), supporta la tecnologia HyperThreading con consumi inferiori ai 3 watts (in passato si era parlato di 2.4 watts).

Questo, oltre a portare un incremento prestazionale ai prodotti che ne faranno uso, dovrebbe far scendere il prezzo dei modelli già in commercio, in particolare quello della CPU Z540 (1.86GHz) utilizzata al momento solo da Sony nel suo Vaio P (disponibile solo in Giappone con un prezzo superiore di circa 150$ rispetto alla versione con “standard” con Atom Z520).

Nel comunicato stampa si annuncia anche l’arrivo di un Atom Z515, dotato della tecnologia Intel Burst Performance Technology, che sarà però orientato al settore MID.

Intel also announced two new Atom processors for MIDs: the Z550 and Z515. The Z550 extends the performance of the MID product line to 2GHz with Intel Hyperthreading technology support, setting a new standard for the highest performance processor in the under-3-watt power envelope. The Z515 incorporates the new Intel® Burst Performance Technology (Intel BPT), which enables the processor to run at 1.2GHz when performance is needed in existing small and sleek MID form factors.
These new Atom processors further extend customer choices to enable the best Internet experience in pocketable MIDs. Chandrasekher also announced several new MID designs for the China market.
